Abstract

This paper examines reading Station Eleven in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. There is also a heavy relation of the text with the usage of the Shakespearean works, other arts within the novel, and the keeping of unnecessary items by the protagonist with the overall message of the text. Ultimately, Station Eleven exposes the importance of the arts, even in times of crisis. Considering the recent Covid-19 pandemic, we can see the novel’s argument: “survival is insufficient” play out in reality. The arts have found a way to survive through past pandemics, Covid-19, and the theorized Georgian Flu in the novel. Through this, one can conclude that the arts and unnecessary objects are essential for living.
