I don't see a collection that matches my work. How can I request one?

To prevent frustration in users who would otherwise have to click through many empty collections, we build collections on request. Please email [email protected] to request one for your department, lab, project, office, or organization. We’ll need a minimum of 48-72 hours for a basic collection, and longer if you'd like it customized.

Will my work receive a DOI?

We can assign DOIs. See our guidelines for requesting one in the Digital Commons @ NMSU guide.

Why does my formatting disappear when I paste an abstract into the submission form?

When copying abstracts from a word processing file or a PDF file, and pasting the text into the submission form, you are taking text from an environment that supports fonts and text style changes. Because the abstract is intended to be presented on the web, text styles must be specified using HTML codes.

Select the HTML option on the submission form, then use these lowercase tags:

  • <p> - paragraph
  • <br> - line break
  • <strong> - bold
  • <em> - italics
  • - subscript
  • - superscript

How do I include accents and special characters in titles and abstracts?

The repository supports Unicode (UTF-8), so you can type or paste special characters directly. You can also insert them with Character Map on Windows or Edit > Emoji & Symbols on a Mac.

How do I revise a submission?

Already posted: email [email protected] with the new version.

To revise a submission that has been posted to the repository, email [email protected] and attach the revised item. We cannot modify theses and dissertations without the permission of the Graduate School.

If the submission has been submitted, but not yet posted, you may revise it via your My Account page:

  1. Locate the article on your My Account page, and click the title.
  2. Click Revise Submission from the list of options in the left sidebar.
  3. Enter your changes in the Revise Submission form, and click Submit at the bottom of the page to submit your changes. (You only need to modify the portion of the form that corresponds to the changes you wish to make.)

How do I submit a multi-part work, like a book with several chapters?

Combine all sections into one Word or PDF file and submit that. If the combined file is large, you can also upload individual chapters as Associated Files (see below) so readers can download them separately.

Can I post related files (sound clips, data sets, etc.) with my work?

Yes – you can upload them as Additional Files when you submit – the name of the files will appear on the site, and you may add an additional short description. Viewers will need to download the files and use their own software to open them.

Please make sure you have permission to share the material. When possible, items such as images, charts, and tables that are integral to the work should be included directly in the main document.

Can I submit scans of printed documents?

Absolutely, but please use a flatbed or document scanner rather than a phone camera. Phone photos are often skewed, shadowed, or blurry, which makes them hard to read and to search.

Save your scan as a PDF with OCR (text recognition) turned on, so readers see the original page and can also search its text.
