Notes
Amethyst (SiO2) is simply a purple variety of quartz with impurities including iron to give it the purple/violet color. This Brazilian geode is formed when a bubble occurred in cooling lava leaving a "cave" once the lava is solid. Water then seeped in and precipitated out minerals inside the cavity (this process took thousands of years).
