Notes

This rough specimen from Zuni Mountains in Cibola County, New Mexico weighs 69 pounds (31.4 kg) and exhibits rare green/blue coloration due to copper minerals, malachite and azurite. Description from Heritage Auction Site: "This massive "log" section of Petrified Wood weighs a rather substantial 69 pounds (31.4 kg) and, of course, exhibits rare green and blue coloration. In this case, it is not the traditional elements, which provide the uncommon hues, but, rather, the presence of Malachite and Azurite. This truly amazing rough specimen collected decades ago has been passed down for generations as a family heirloom to the current owner. The material hails from New Mexico, so the inclusion of the Copper minerals makes sense, but collectors will know what a rarity it is to find Petrified Wood with both blue and green color so clearly represented. While most Petrified Wood offered at auction is of the cut and polished variety, some specimens - even as rough material - are so transcendent they stand alone with no need for alteration. This is a huge and colorful chunk of blue and green Petrified Wood from New Mexico and makes this supremely significant."
